Remember, the whole world is watching what you say at the Rally. Hostile international media will be listening to your every word. Your remarks will be parsed to find the most damaging pull quote that they can use to smear the whole rally. The media will be looking for a soundbite they can use in order to defame the entire Rally as a gathering of bigots and hatemongers.

We cannot and must not fall into their trap. You can be just as effective without being inflammatory.

We want to host more conferences and rallies in the future, and we hope you will speak for us again. Accordingly, we ask most urgently that you adhere strictly to the following guidelines:

Don’t say or suggest that all Muslims are evil or terrorists
Don’t say or suggest that all mosques are planning grounds for jihad terrorism
Don’t bash Islam. Don’t refer to it as an evil religion. If you need to refer to Islamic doctrines, be specific and avoid broad characterizations.
If you do not adhere to these guidelines, your address will not help us achieve our goal. You will have helped the media portray the Rally as hateful, and will have just made the mosque Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf look good.

Focus in on talking points that Bat Ye’or articulated in a recent interview with Pamela Geller:

Ground Zero is a war memorial, a burial ground – sacred to the American people
Mosque supporters say the mosque is intended to show good will, but Americans wouldn’t destroy the cemeteries of soldiers in Europe in order to show good will toward the Germans
A mosque at Ground Zero shows a lack of consideration for the victims and their families
The people are against the mosque. The government must listen to the demand of the people
The mosque organizers should respect the feelings of the nation and the memories of the families
This mosque will be an icon in the Islamic world for the global jihad
9/11 has become a symbolic date to accuse the West of Islamophobia – it has been subverted. In the same way, the mosque will stand for the jihad
We should ask the Muslim group for mutual respect and mutual understanding. Muslims cannot put a mosque on top of Ground Zero the way they put a mosque on the top of the Temple Mount. That is how this mosque is perceived, and people have to be sensitive to that.

If you believe in your heart that you cannot adhere to these guidelines, please let us know now that you will speak to press at the Rally.

Please acknowledge receipt of these Guidelines and reply back with your assent to them.

Yours in liberty
Pamela Geller
